A cave in the reef's edge elongates into darkness, until the small,
ironclad door at the end.  It smells like rot and dead sea-life, which isn't
that surprising, but is certainly disgusting.

  A small oubliette carved in the rock face hundreds of yards below the
surface in the Proving Grounds must be one of the worst ways to die.  There
are no windows, nor ports, nor slits in the door for food.  This is simply a

  At first glance, one would think they had escaped the coral reef's
clutches in this small enclave.  The coral breaks, and the sea returns for a
moment.  But on all sides, the coral remains.  It appears that this section
may have been cut off on purpose, as many of the corals have snipped edges,
some if as by teeth.  Though little reef is above, the water is as dark here
as anywhere in the settlement.
