NPC: An elusive will o’wisp Long Desc: A glowing ball of light hovers here, drawing you closer. Carefully you examine the unusual being before you. You have heard tales about a creature of light that can mesmerize the unwary, leading them to their doom. Even though you guard yourself against its inexplicable attraction, you still find yourself wanting to follow where it leads. Should you try to defeat this creature or simply leave? It is an unique approximately 4’7" tall. It’s found in Mandrake Woods, is mobile and affected by senctuary. NPC: The lurking tree Long Desc: A withered tree with many long tentacles reaches out to devour you. A tree stands here moving slightly in the ever-present breeze. The bark is an unusual shade of brown and the roots seem to stretch out on top to the ground more than the others. Its gentle swaying becomes more violent as time passes, then it attacks. It is a demon approximately 8’0" tall. It’s also found in Mandrake Woods and affected by sanctuary, I think it’s stationary. NPC: A living thornbush Long Desc: A patch of thorns suddenly comes alive beneath your feet! An interesting clump of plants sits near the trail, covered in thorns and waving slightly in the breeze; the only problem is there isn’t a breeze here. Growing in these adverse conditions has made it necessary for this plant to take on a life of its own and find food. Its thorny limbs are dangerous indeed, trapping unwary adventurers in its spines. It is a plant approximately 5’5" tall. Found in Mandrake Woods, I think it’s stationary. NPC: An ancient druid Long Desc: An ancient druid seems to blend into the forest. This druid, protector and lover of nature, wears a dark green cloak that seems to meld with the leaves of the forest. The many wrinkles on her face and her age-spotted hands show her to be very old. However, her magical powers are still formidable, and she seems to be employing them to remain hidden from the trolls while searching for her companions. She is a human approximately 5’7" tall. Found in Mandrake Woods, affected by sanctuary, drops a dark green druid’s robe and is mobile. |

Ooh, here’s another: NPC: The guardian of the bridge Long Desc: A small troll leaps at you when it hears your footsteps on the bridge. This forest troll seems to have claimed the bridge as his and is very angry that you dare to cross it. He lets out a stream of what you assume to be vulgar comments about you, fortunately you don’t understand trollish. Oddly, the guardian then dances around menacingly before launching himself at you. He is a troll approximately 10’5" tall. Mandrake Woods, it’s stationary. |

A couple more: NPC: A giant, multicolored butterfly Long Desc: A giant, multicolored butterfly flits from flower to flower. With delight you watch the colors on this insect’s wings as they seem to glow and shimmer in the dim light. After all the darkness and evil of this forest, such a beautiful, innocent being is a welcome sight. Even if you were agile enough to catch it, you would never consider harming this peaceful creature. She is an insect approximately 0’5" tall. Also in Mandrake Woods, I think it’s stationary, but it may be mobile. NPC: A dryad of the forest Long Desc: A beautiful, green-skinned woman beckons to you from behind a branch. A lovely woman who seems to blend with the trees and bushes around here, beckons you closer. This must a dryad, the protector of the trees and plants, that you have heard legends about. Knowing the magical abilities they are rumored to have you know this sprite is not the least bit defenseless. She is a dryad approximately 5’5" tall. Mandrake Woods, affected by sanctuary, I think it’s stationary. |

Is there no end to the Mandrake Woods NPCs!? NPC: An arboreal troll Long desc: A small green humanoid clings to a nearby tree trunk. You laugh as a sapling-high troll comes roaring out of hiding and stands before you. Strangely discolored hair and a multitude of warts cover the body of the troll and you almost feel sorry for it. With its tiny claws you don’t see it to be much of a threat, but maybe you should kill it just to be sure. She is a troll approximately 10’4" tall. |

What, did you think that was it? NPC: A fire salamander Long Desc: A nasty-looking, foot-long orange lizard hisses at you. One of the great scourges of forested and grassy areas, the fire salamander protects itself from predators by first burning out all cover in the area, and then directing a powerful blast of magical flame at anything thus revealed. It is a salamander approximately 5’7" tall. Mandrake woods, of course, affected by fireshield, and I think it’s stationary. Oh, and "a sprig of medicinal herbs" is found in Mandrake Woods. And that conclude my fun day at Mandrake, finally. :D |

I found yet another NPC while leaving: NPC: A harmless garter snake Long Desc: A small green snake slithers through the undergrowth. Startled by a slight rustling in the undergrowth, you barely notice the tip of this creature’s green, striped tail as it quickly slithers away. Obviously quite shy, you’re confident the garter snake is harmless. Still, snakes always make you a little nervous and you find yourself scratching and checking your boots to ensure you’re their only inhabitant. He is a snake approximately 1’7" tall. Mandrake Woods (duh), mobile. |

This is taking a long time to type out… NPC: A timid brown rabbit Long Desc: A nervous-looking brown rabbit nibbles at the bushes. A small, brown rabbit scurries through the underbrush at the noise of your approach. With short brown hair and a white tail it doesn’t seem to be much of a threat to anyone and not worth the effort to kill. Then again, rabbit stew doesn’t seem like a bad idea for the little critter. He is a rodent approximately 1’5" tall. Mobile, you should be able to guess where I found it. |

I never knew you had so few NPCs… NPC: A blue-banded hawk Long Desc: A blue-banded hawk circles high overhead. Admiring the beauty of this majestic bird, you envy the hawk its freedom as it soars high overhead through the azure sky. Captivated by the spectacle of effortless grace, you are startled when suddenly it folds its wings and dives at some small animal nearby, powerful talons gripping its prey while the sharp beak makes short work of devouring its meal. He is a bird approximately 1’6" tall. Mobile, this one is actually found in Alyria. (Just outside of Mandrake Woods) There, I hope that’s it. |

I though I’d be safe from finding new NPCs in Xav, but no. NPC: A Viridian Military, Archery Division recruiter Long Desc: A dracon of average build stands here, grinning at you evilly. A medium-sized dracon stands here proudly, eagerly anticipating his next attempt to recruit a lackadaisical, slack-jawed, slovenly dracon ranger inured to the ignorant ways of man into his ranks. He blinks frequently, having spent all of his life in the Alyrian Underground, his eyes unaccustomed to the relatively harsh sunlight. He is a dracon approximately 4’11" tall. Affected by fireshield and sanctuary, mobile, I found him in Xaventry. |

I’m standing in npk while typing this. NPC: A shaman of Gath Long Desc: An orcish shaman who finds soltitude in his faith through sacrifice. In flowing robes of crimson stands an orcish shaman of Gath. His eyes are stern yet fair and they look towards you giving you a chill as it feels they are touching the center of your soul. The priest smiles at you semi-friendly but you do not feel overly comfortable standing before him. He is an orc approximately 6’11" tall. Affected by Fireshield and Sanctuary, mobile, found in Xav, carries a staff of a Gath shaman. NPC: A minotaur slave Long Desc: A temple slave rushes off to serve its master. This slave, brought here from who knows where, is serving the masters of the temple with anything they desire. Being a minotuar it doesn’t have much the choice, or else it will suffer the wrath of the fire elemental of Gath. It has a collar on its neck indicating what the name of its master is. This poor slave can’t be much more than ten years of age. She is a minotaur approximately 6’10" tall. Drops "a pair of iron shackles" (Level 40 version), mobile, found in Xav. NPC: A robed follower of Gath Long Desc: A follower of Gath covered in dark robes stands before you. This evil looking character gives you a rather impish grin as it passes you by. Covered completely in robes, you have no idea what race or gender it is until you look him directly into the eyes. His red orbs gleam back at you, sending a shiver down your spine. You had best let this worshipper be on with his business. He is a drow approximately 4’8" tall. Found in Xav, affected by Sanctuary, stationary I think. NPC: A burly guard Long Desc: A burly giant guards the gate to the Gath Temple. This giant creature looks as if it is some cross breed between an ogre and a hill giant. Then again, you really can’t tell. It stands proudly before the gates of the Gath temple, watching over your every step. If you try to get into the gate, he blocks your way. He is an ogre approximately 7’0" tall. Xaventry, stationary, carries "a giant’s platemail" and "an iron gate key". |
