read inscription Here begins the tale of the first great Hero, and those who would journey along with him. I have waited for his coming longer than any mortal being can imagine, but when these writings are complete my service shall be ended. The eight sacred tablets provided unto me by the Powers shall finally be put to use, and will serve as a chronicle of the Hero's quest. The prophecy states that many others will follow after him, and some may even find the same success on their journeys. I know not if this tale will survive to aid them, but I hope that at least some good will come of my work. As the minions of the mad Overlord Bloodbane dug deeper and deeper into the ground on Wizardry Isle in search of treasures, they finally came upon an ancient gateway deep within the bowels of the earth. Many attempts were made to penetrate through its defenses, but none were successful. A short time later, the Hero heard news of the discovery and decided to visit the area himself. He gathered four of his bravest and most loyal followers: a cavalier, a priest, a wizard, and a bard. The mighty band set off, and eventually made their way down to the gateway. Although virtually every concievable method of opening the barrier had already failed, as the Hero approached it swung upon of its own accord. The bystanders watched with amazement as the party of adventurers passed through the massive crystal doors, disappearing into the darkness of the tunnel beyond. |
