This book serves as a warning to anyone that travels the mountainous
terrain surrounding the Palace of Diocletian. After years of
studying official documents, consulting several historians from every corner
of Auryn and even visiting a village of goblins, my quest to find proof of a
certain deity has led me to Krayos Mountain. I originally sought fame and
fortune, but now write this message as a warning to the citzens of the
Palace of Diocletian.
Long before Emperor Diocletian build his grand palace on one of the harsh,
windy peaks of Krayos Mountain, there was a frighteningly powerful spirit
named Selvicia that whistled through the rocky crags. Manifesting as gales
and wind storms, she has ravaged the very top of this mountain for eons,
allowing virtually nothing to survive. There is little more than a second
hand account of her existence, however. Written records are scarce, and
there have only been a handful of eyewitnesses. From my findings, I can
only deduce that this goddess is of a pure, malicious nature, as recorded
rituals honoring her include some sort of live, perferably human, sacrifice.
These rituals give Selvicia her true strength, which she often shares with
the most evil of her followers. I not only found records of a devastating
wind storm in Lord Vendredi's library, but spoke to the chieftain of a
goblin village on the mountain for a first hand account.
With the help of a translator, the chieftain told me a story about a wind
storm that lasted for 27 days. Much of their village, located a fairly safe
distance from Selvicia's domain, was destroyed by the high winds and debris.
In their darkest hour, on the 26th day, the chieftain sent out a small group
of men to confront the angry forces of nature. No remains of that group
have ever been found, but the storm stopped the following morning.
Generations later, Emperor Diocletian carved out a habitable spot for his
palace, and constructed his architectural marvel. Selvicia, insulted by the
intrusion of these mortals, started to increase her presence around the
mountain top. Several residents of the palace report seeing a lady with
wind blown hair walking barefoot around the mountain. While her face is
constantly stretched in that of a howling moan, she makes no noise as she
floats effortlessly over the barren terrain.
Several years ago, the High Priestess of the church logged a formal
complaint with Emperor Diocletian that several cult members were trespassing
in the catacombs underneath the Octafoliate Church. While one member was
captured, the rest have hidden themselves away in the dangerous, twisting
passages of the underground burial chambers. Before committing suicide, the
cult member gave a dark warning about the coming of the lady. I have reason
to believe that this Cult of the Lady is behind the recent disappearance
of several citizens of the Palace of Diocletian. I pray that Emperor
Diocletian listens to my warning and purges the catacombs of this cult
before disaster strikes.
