Long Desc: A large mud-spotted wasp hovers above street puddles.

Named for the elaborate chambered nests they build of mud and dirt, this
large species of wasp is known as a dirt dauber.  Its black body has
brilliant yellow stripes on the thorax and abdomen.  Each dirt dauber feeds
on smaller insects, such as spiders and beetles, entombing them in their
burrows.  In spite of their fierce look, these insects are surprisingly
docile and nearly harmless to people unless seriously threatened.
