The path opens to give a comfortable breadth for travel.  Its pavement
consists of a patchwork of small stones stomped into the ground forming a
dry earthy mosaic.  An overgrowth of ragweeds, felled tree limb and awkwardly
tilted saplings that once obscured the pass have been uprooted and now lay
in neat piles to the south curb.  The northern edge is lined with a colorful
assortment of wildflowers, each displaying a shade of blue or yellow tinted
with the red of an early autumn.  
     A stale crumb of bread sets here unwanted.
