This room is pitch dark only for an instant.  As soon as you enter, two
incense candles light up about ten feet away from each other.  One is about
five feet to the east of you, the other is about five feet to the west.  The
candles provide no illumination.  There is neither a visibile floor or
ceiling, simply total blackness.  When you take another step, two more
candles flare up about five feet away.  The pattern continues, and the
candles mark a dimly lit pathway to the north and north.  To the south
stands a set of brass doors, leading a way out of the darkness.  Something
tells you that this is your last chance to turn around.
