The tunnel is extremely sooty and dusty from the constant use of the mine
below.  Each day the slaves trod from their pens under the whips of the
slave masters only to toil seemingly forever, until they either collapse
from exhaustion or make it through one more day.  If the Baron know about
this travesty and allows this to continue, then perhaps he is truly insane.
