The corridor extends both east and west, with rooms opening on either
side.  To the north and south, the sound of soldiers preparing for their
next guard shift can be heard as they sharpen their weapons and joke with
each other.  Loud annoying snoring sounds can be heard as the other soldiers
rest for their next shift of duty.
