The smell, you have realized, is the worst it could possibly be.  Your
nostrils burn from the stench that wafts from the cells.  You watch in
horror as several of the slaves fight mercilessly over a piece of bread that
someone found on a decomposing body on the floor.  The slaves are covered in
filth, and the stink arising from their bodies makes you gag.
