Ouch.  Although every rule has an exception, it's just your luck that you choose to this not-so-bottomless shaft to fall into.  Fragments of skull and crushed bones lie about the area, estaments to the discoveries of other adventurers who found this bottom in the same way approaching terminal velocity.   Although it no longer really matters, as your legs get driven up into your ribcage, it becomes painfully apparent that this bottomless pit wasn't so bottomless after all.
