You've reached a sharp turn in the smoke-filled hallway.  A thin coat of
greenish slime coats the bottom of the stone walls and floor making it
difficult to keep from falling.  Upon closer inspection of the floor, you
see a two lines in the slime leading to a humanoid-shaped imprint against
the south wall.  You surmise that someone was dragged through the slime and
thrown against the cold, stone wall and, by the splatters of blood on the
wall and the pool on the floor, probably eaten.  The stench of burning flesh
and cloth grows stronger and seems to be coming from further down the
hallway to the north, while the hallway to the main foyer continues to the
east.  
A small pool of blood has been spilt here.
