On the floor of the transept is a rectangular iron grate, roughly six
feet in length and four feet in width.  Through the iron tendrils you can
see a narrow stone staircase descending west under the transept.  You pause
for a moment to hear the sounds of clanking chains and vocal arguments.  You
try to investigate further but the hefty copper lock on the right hand side
of the grate prevents you from going any further.  The transept continues
east, west, and north.
