From the looks of this alcove, it looks as though people started to carve
out the tunnels off in this direction but decided against it.  There is
something about the walls that absorbs the light such that you cannot really
see their details.  The dampness seems to have collected here, as the floor
is covered in a thin layer of water.  Mildew, moss, and other fungi grow
here, giving off a rotting odor.
