You have reached the end of the hallway and stand face to face with the
gilded door that you could see reflecting light further back into the
hallway.  Torches have been placed in iron holders on each side of the door
filling the area with a bright light that is intensified by the reflection
off of the door.  A scratching noise comes from behind the door as though
someone, or something, were laying in wait for an unsuspecting adventurer.
