East Avenue Archivolts - N - (-------------------------------------------------) - <---(M)---> - - S - Standing to your west is the southern portion of the Basilica of Diocletian, its bricked-faced concrete walls rise 40 feet above the floor. Through one of its many windows you can see that there are two aisles, and a wide interior space with two stories of large windows that provide ample light. You see semicircular bands of moldings round the lower curve of this archivolt above you. North and south on the avenue are the only ways to travel. A Diocletian commoner goes about his daily chores here.
