Lateral Corridor Junction - - - (-------------------------------------------------) W <---(M)---> E - S - The long lateral hallway is proportioned according to the rest of basilica, framed by the slender, reedlike columns. As you glance west you notice the stilted arches of complex shape, and wonderfully colored floor mosaics. All surfaces along the walls are covered by colored stucco moldings. The resulting buoyant, airy, almost floating appearance of the hallway is enhanced by the vertical decorations. The junction of the long main hallway to your south, and the lateral corridor that travels east and west, can be seen here. The sliced-off arm of a Diocletian scholar of Law is lying here.
