You are at an entrance to a settlement.  Down in the middle of Vesuvius
cast a climate control spell on the tunnels allowing them to be life
sustainable.  Gnomes, dwarves and humans wander about, in and out of huts. 
walls are thick.  Although you are surprised by the settlement, you are
happy to be in a place where you can seek shelter, get some food, and talk
to some people.
