The walls around you are cold to the touch, and the air bites at your
nose.  The floor has a large crack running down the middle, formed after
many years of aging and weathering.  There is one window, to the east, with
its shutters open, and the large drapes billowing in the frigid air. 
Against the south wall is a metal stairway with frozen steps, leading up to
a huge, heavy trapdoor in the ceiling.
