Sheer compacted sand walls rise on either side of this canyon.  Over
time, the immense weight of matter has cemented the dusty yellow sediment
into sandstone, visible now through the cross-section of this canyon.  Wind
blowing over it has little effect, though anything blowing through digs
deeper.  The canyon edge provides some protection from the relentless sun,
but during midday there is no escape.  The canyon rises up to the town to
the west, and a large clearing to the southeast contains some cliff
dwellings and such.
