Gilvery's only road is as dry and dusty here as ever.  Twin wooden fences
of medium height keep travelers away from the forest of improbably thick
cornstalks to the north and out of the cows' pasture to the south.  More
importantly, the southern fence keeps the livestock where they ought to be
