From up here, the whole of the courtyard can be seen.  Its natural light,
diffused by the snowflakes, is the last of the sunlight available, as the
cave system returns to the darkness and descends at a steep angle.  Whatever
those statues down in the courtyard are, they're probably so placed because
of what's further in.  Best be careful.
