This is a small, cramped room, with a very distinct and obnoxious smell. 
The captain of the ship stands here, one hand on the helm and the other
gripping a flagon of some dank brew.  He has a distant look, as if
preoccupied by something else.  You wonder why the Captain keeps himself so
secluded and if he is fit to steer the ship.  A very pungent and almost
sickening smell is coming up from the hatch below.  
A filthy rat squeaks here, gathering crumbs it finds on the floor.

Captain Mericus is here, one hand idly resting on the helm.
