The shadow spectre is the most mysterious of the four entities that
reside within the Shrine of Vandyne, ironically because its origins are
domestic.  Androgynous and unemotional, the spectre cannot even be said to
be alive, or even truly exist.  It is not a spectre in the traditional
sense, synonymous with a ghost or ghoul, but merely the shade or hint or
thought of something else.  In a world of things, it is an insinuation, a
shadow cast upon the wall, a vestige of the truth and physicality.  It
cannot be described by adjectives, nor by its distinct lack thereof.
