This is a narrow, but well appointed companionway just off the main deck.
It protects the Captain's quarters, map room, and officer's mess from the
weather.  The companionway is lined with expensive carpetting and decorated
with expensive woods.  There are several portholes along the outer wall
while on the other wall, hang several oil lanterns.  The captain's quarters
are to the south, while the hatch to the main deck is to the north.

The captain's quarters is the finest cabin on the ship.  While not
spacious, it has been designed to make the most use of all the available
space.  A large bed, three times the size any other bed on the ship, with a
decadently plush feather mattress, multiple pillows, clean sheets, and warm
quilts, dominates the cabin.  Two large windows, one on each side of the
bed, look out the stern of the ship.  A large rolltop desk is built into the
eastern wall; the captain's log open upon it.  Shelves, cabinets, drawers,
and closets are built into the walls and filling all the remaining wall
space.
The captain of the pirates is here going over his log.
'Arr, Katran, ye looks like ye'd be a fine addition to our merry crew.' the pirate captain says.
'What say ye, wouldst ye like to join our band o' miscreants!' the pirate captain exclaims.
The pirate captain chortles with glee.

You say to the pirate captain, 'Yes'
'Arr.' the pirate captain says. 'Those scurrilous curs, the crew of the Marauding Succubus, have plundered our treasure room.'
The pirate captain says, 'They took twee treasure chests, a gold and a silver.'
'The gold one be gone, I fear.' the pirate captain says. 'Thar silver, be within the Cove somewhere, but whereabouts I know not. Return it to we intact, and ye'll be rewarded heartily!'
The pirate captain chortles with glee.

The deck of this mighty pirate ship is constructed from solid oak
planking and beams.  Three masts rise from the centers of the forecastle,
maindeck, and the sterncastle, each bearing an array of furled sails.  There
are burns and gashes all over the deck marking previous battles on the high
seas.  A door-like hatch to the south leads down to the captain's quarters,
while another hatch here covers the opening to below decks.

The hallway under the deck of the ship is lit with lanterns on each side
of the hallway.  It has the smell of fine cedar and is quite elaborate.
There are pictures of important crewmen and pirates from the past.  The
hallway leads to crew's quarters and To the north is the crew's quarters.
The hallway continues to the east.  A ladder leads back up to the deck of
the ship.

This messhall is very dirty and messy.  The tables and chairs are cracked
and in bad need of repair.  There are crumbs of food leftover from previous
meals and the floors are covered with spilt beer and ale.  There are deep
scratches in the walls and the table from many knife fights that have
occured here.
A conniving pirate is here looking for trouble.

A string of tied bandanas drapes down from the elevated bunk, raised over
a seaman's desk with various and sundry scrolls, sextants, compasses, maps,
gold knickknacks, and loose sheets of paper.  The pirate ship is designed
for economy of space, not comfort, and so this stateroom doesn't have room
for much else, but from what belongings hang from the walls and ceiling, and
roll around the desk, talekh has spent his years well, even if illegally.
A one-eyed pirate stands here, chortling at you.
Talekh drops a solid-silver treasure chest, and kicks it open.
'Take yeer pick, Katran.' Talekh says. 'Ye're one o' us now.'

You focus your powers of observation on a solid-silver treasure chest:
This item is beyond your power to identify further.
This silver treasure chest is inscribed with the brand of pirates.  It's
heavy, filled with treasure, which makes its presence here even more
unusual.  Why it's not safely secured within the pirates' hold is a mystery,
although probably one easily solved.
