This makeshift building looks almost ready to collapse under the weight
of snow and ice.  Icy air leaks in through many gaps in the slab-board
walls, and the tables and stools are made of the roughest cut lumber.  A
huge slab of wood, planed smooth and then polished by many wipes of a
bar-rag rests on large barrels forming the bar.  The selection may be
limited, but you can be sure the liquors are strong and hard.  
     A thick slab of heartwood serves as the bar.
