A feeble fire burns in a small fireplace still filled with old coals from
fires lit before.  Balanced precariously on one of its four legs is a table
covered with an oily cloth still caked in some places with food and spilt
drinks.  Light struggles to brighten the room from a candle that seems to
have burned long past its time.  
A slimy mass oozes along scavenging the roads for bits of debris left by travelers.
