The combat pit has fine sand that has been hard packed to make a
relatively smooth surface for fighting on.  This used to originally be the
nesting place of a large dragon, it is said that long ago the ogres came and
killed it.  The pit boss's observation deck is up and to the north slightly,
it is visible but out of reach of contestants.
