You have arrived at a landing, halfway between the stories of the clock
tower.  Due to the dim light, you can't make out much beyond this floor.  A
spiral staircase made of elaborate wrought-iron ascends and descends through
the ceiling and the floor of the landing.  A narrow, plain door to the east
possibly leads into a storage room of some sort.
