Public Palaestra Exercise Area - N - (-------------------------------------------------) - <---(M)---> E - - - The palace residents are obsessed with fitness. Men are educated with the values of heros, and exercised to perform in this large gymnasium. Archaic exercise equipment and large platforms cover the room. A small transitional room lets tired athletes venture to the large natatio pool to the north. A large bronze statue commentating the pursuit of fitness has been placed in the center of the room. The artist has frozen the action of the statue, with profile limbs and a nearly frontal chest twisting in motion, suggesting tension of a coiled spring. This idealized individual is the model that palace residents are seeking to obtain. With a balance of physical and emotion health, the Diocletians are able to maintain themselves in a harsh environment.
