  For a trading vessel, the hold is surprisingly sparse and free of cargo. 
There are empty hammocks dotted around, tied to the bulkheads.  It is hard
to imagine the unfortunate sailors who occupy these bunks being at all
comfortable down here.  Light illuminates the hold through cracks in the
hull and deck head.  There also seems to be a light source south of here. 
It is occupied by the smell of fish and sound of vigorous chopping.  
     A dirty hammock swings back and forth.
