Stairwell Inside the Arch                              -      -      -

This stairwell must be used by the guards who live in the pediment
portion of the arch.  From this position off-duty guards are able to quickly
come to the aid of their fellow guards in time of need.  From inside you can
see the method in which the arch was constructed, uncemented blocks weighing
up to two tons each have been stacked to create the enourmous structure. 
The stairwell continues up, and to your west is the exit to the east arch.
