Shimmying up the quarter mast is a feat for the brave and nimble.  From
this position one in not able to do much more than hang on to this slim mast
and observe the higher mid-masts and frozen deck below.  The sails are
furled and frozen tight to the slipper cross beams and numerous ropes hang
having snapped from their moors.
