The base of the volcano cradles the city's center in an arch starting in
the west and slowly curving southward around the city's residential
neighborhoods in the east.  The volcano has caused the smoothly paved street
to be bisected lengthwise to the north leaving a trail of rubble that
defines its border.  A badly broken bridge lay twisted to the north its
remains being the only thing that was able to gouge a dent in the rising
strata.
