Compared to the horror of the smelting operation going on in the cavern,
this place is a paradise.  In fact however, it is only slightly cooler than
the rest of the caverns and the accomodations rather spartan.  There is a
bench running along the walls that has been carved out of the rock.  Two
buckets lie at opposite ends of the room.  One contains a disgusting, fetid,
putrid pile of unknown material and the other one is a toilet.  If one were
hungry, it would be difficult to decide which bucket would be more
appetizing.  The ladle in the first bucket answers the question.  Slaves are
resting on the benches, their faces utterly blank and beaten.  Welts and
open sores along their necks and shoulders attest to their hard life.  
     A hoe used for turning soil lay here discarded.
