The interior of the Hammer and Anvil is very hot.  The forge located in
the corner is hooked up to a large chimney that pipes out all the smoke. 
The forge is heated with high-grade coal and other cinder materials.  The
rest of the blacksmith shop is filled with hooks that tools are hung on. 
The anvil in the center of the shop has small nicks in it from years of
repairs to weapons and armor.
