Because most plants need carbon dioxide to survive, it was a mystery how
Tellerian seaweed was able to survive at the bottom of the ocean.  However,
it has recently been discovered that tiny air pockets in its leaves are able
to filter the gas out of the water around it.  An interesting application of
this knowledge goes along with the fact that the plant begins trapping
oxygen if removed from the water, and therefore cannot survive.  However, if
consumed, the seaweed contains enough air to grant the ability to breathe
underwater temporarily.
