Loose and jagged rocks form the lengthy stretch of seawall that crosses
the middle of Lake Whompfish.  Travel across its moistened surface is
perilous as unsecured stones topple over with each step, dropping with a
heavy 'kerplunk' into the dense water.  A slippery ochre algae skirts the
waterline of the larger immobile stones.  The sickly lake moss reeks of
putrid decay as its surface layer decomposes in the dry air.
