Small stones lay shattered upon the solid surface of the rocky shelf. 
The gravel makes a fine sandy mortar that fills the crevices of the dank
monoliths and holds them firmly together.  Water rises in waves to slap
ineffectually at the sides of the stout stoney breaker and an odd silence
saturates the landscape save for the endless lapping.  The sound of snapping
branches and loud voices can be heard bickering softly on the breeze
drifting from the southwest.
