Up ahead lies a large barrier made of stone, standing at least ten feet
high, it spans the the width of the passage.  Large obsidian gargoyles flank
the passage here, their blank stares penetrating into the darkness. 
Recessed torches create beams that reveal little, creating eerie shadows. 
The high arched ceiling is made of a very dark stone, as are the walls and
the floor.
