You are on a narrow band of rock encircling a huge pit of molten metal
and fire.  The heat radiating from it is intense beyond words.  Through the
center of the pit is a stone bridge leading to the otherside.  The rim forms
a half-moon around the circumfrence of the pit itself.  Chains and pulleys
are sitting at either end constantly pulling buckets of molten metal out of
the pit and depositing their contents at the other end of the lift to
waiting workers.
