The reason for the grooves lies here, rusting and full of large pieces of
rock ore.  It resembles a mine cart, only instead of running on gravity, it
has a double harness attached to it.  The harness has bits of rag over the
yoke and the rags are dirty and bloody.  What poor beast of burden must
carry this load against the current, uphill and in these temperatures?  Soft
moans and the clink of metal on rock up ahead hold the answer.
