The District Courtroom is surprisingly smaller than the Federal Courtroom
next door.  The bench is elevated considerably and most impressive in dark
wood, a large gavel resting on the desk surface.  Jury seating is two lines
of straight-backed, unpadded wooden chairs, designed to prevent jurors
falling asleep during tedious testimony.  

The judge sits behind the bench awaiting his next decision.
The court reporter chronicles everything that is said for the record.
