The shelter of the buildings provides a welcome relief from the
bone-chilling wind.  The road is better here, packed gravel and dirt lightly
rutted from the passage of hooves and feet.  Waves of warmth escape from the
gaping doorways of a nearby building, and the unmistakable clanging and
shouts of a blacksmith at work echo from the ice-slicked log walls around
you.  Another massive structure sits across the road, its pitched roof
making it loom even larger, the familiar scent of horses wafting out each
time a door is opened.
