The relatively narrow passage between buildings opens into the central
square of the camp, which is ringed by buildings of varied sizes and uses
but all built with massive logs and steeply pitched roofs to shed the heavy
snow.  The unending bustle of the camp flows through the area; the ring of
axes and shouts of greeting carry in the icy air as the men go about their
daily business.
