The small stones from the nearby volcano that were squashed tightly into
the soft gravel have all been wrenched to the side.  Having once stood
straight in line with one another they now form horizontal step-like
patterns, a telltale sign that the earth below them has shifted.  To the
south a large gap has opened up in the coral reef that once formed the
boundary of the road between houses.  Fish dart in and out of the fissure as
it has become a novel home for them.  The merfolk that pass through here
walk quickly past with their eyes forced forward as if they fear what lies
with in.
