One of the first buildings built by the overworld races in the
underground, this fort originally provided protection to the archeological
dig teams and explorers that first came here.  Over time, however, its role
has changed, and it is now responsible for the safety of the surrounding
homesteads and the settlers who are building them.  The fort also serves as
a first warning to the overworld cities, should some force be let loose in
the caverns that would menace the surface.
